France intervened when the Dutch started their 10 day campaign. At this point their """war of independence""" was more about attacking local garrisons. When the Dutch army showed up they collectively shat themselves and the French speaking quasi-nobility of the South called on France for help.

I like how the only negatives about Belgium in that article are Congo (which was not done by Belgium) and the German invasion, which would have still happened had Belgium not existed.

And thanks to some of the more complex issues any attempts to split up the country would result in long term economic destabilization for everyone involved
