Sola Scriptura or Prima Scriptura?
>>
Who cares only Jesus matters.
>>
Neither

t. Orthodox

This, plebs shouldn't be interpreting the bible, that's the magisteriums job.
>>
>>830528
No, that's a Catholic position. The Orthodox position is, and ALWAYS has been, that everyone should read Scripture, and if they can't read, they should have someone else read it to them.

Orthodox believe in Prima Scirptura
>>
>>830545
The Orthodox don't see Scripture and tradition as distinct, Scripture is literally nothing but a *witness* to Holy Tradition. Holy Tradition is the dogma passed down by Christ, nothing can be added to it, nothing can be taken away from it. To say Scripture has primacy over what Christ passed on is incoherent, Scripture's authority is based on its being a witness to what Christ passed on.
>>
sola fide
>>
>>830517
Obviously Prima Scriptura.

>>830541
Constantine NO!!!

Orthodoxy's position is Prima Scriptura. It is true that Scripture is the highest authority but this authority is mediated through Sacred Tradition as well which serves as a guide to Scripture itself.

That's Prima Scriptura

Wait do you actually believe that Kirill is the Lord's Vicar on earth?
>>
>>830559
Scripture IS Holy Tradition in the Orthodox Church, we don't compartmentalize them.

Only in the administration of Sacraments.

Why doesn't christianity embrace it's younger brother liberalism? And why the two don't embrace their youngest brother marxism? For they are all sons of the same father...

The sooner the three of you would recognize you familial bonds and essential communality the better it would be for conservatives all over the world.
>>
Anything that cannot be derived from scripture is not true tradition.
>>
>>830566
Either way, Scripture still sits on the highest pedestal according to the Orthodox view. it is like the jewel. Anything else like Councils, Regula Fidei, Creed and the Consensus Patrum are like the glass case protecting the Jewel from getting stolen.
>>
>>830567

That's pretty weird. I think the Old Believers / Traditionalists were much more in right in regards to Biblical interpration then the current Russian church which is actually state controlled.

Why don't you realize that just because the guy running the Laundromat is named Nguyen it doesn't mean he's directly related to your Math teacher who's also named Nguyen?

But nobody is talking about that

The Russian Church is not state controlled, and desu is makes me bitter every time someone says this. Throughout communist rule the Church fought tooth and nail against state control, to the point that the state caused a schism in the Church, between the Orthodox Church and the "Living" Orthodox Church, which supported the state (among other things, they allowed bishops to marry, multiple times even). At one point, the "living" Church controlled 90% of parishes. But the Russian people hated it, and in WWII, Stalin gave the Orthodox Church back their authority because the "living" Orthodox Church was not accepted. The Patriarch was not a defector, he was always with Church. Those of the "living" Orthodox Church had to do penance to be accepted again, this all happened in Stalin time. The Church did not fight with the state, but they did not allow the USSR to tamper with dogma or select bishops, even though the Bolsheviks tried very, very, very hard to do so. This is why there is no Orthodox Church in China except for at embassies, because the state wants to run it. Only last year, did the Chinese state finally approve a *single* priest, to be selected and ordained by the Church., provided he was Chinese. The guy went to Russia for seminary for several, years, and became the first permitted priest there.

Saying any of those are related is like saying eels and caecilians are venomous like pit vipers because they share similar morphology.
>>
>>830658
The Russian Church is still state controlled
>>
>>830588
Ecumenical Councils serve to codify Truth in the face of heresy, their function is different. The Truth they attest to does not come from, it came from Christ (and anything they attest to which does not, has no validity as dogma), and was passed on continually through the Apostles and Church Fathers.
>>
>>830663
So your argument is that christianity is not a venomous snake, just a normal snake; or maybe the others are not venomous and christianity is the venomous one, I'm not sure if I get that part. I rather not deal with snakes at all desu.
>>
>>830580

The church made the book in the first place, obviously it is primary.
>>
>>830665
No, it is not. Nikkon, the guy who persecuted Old Believers, was removed from office. Peter the Great imposed a Holy Synod to oversee the Church, but that was always opposed, and as soon as the Church got the option of voting on it (following the Russian Revolution), they voted to unanimously to get rid of the Synod and go back to the Patriarch system. The state control just meant the state could close down monasteries (which they did quite a bit), that the pay for clergy had to come through them instead of directly from the Church, etc.

Signing off for Lent, adios.
>>
>>830679
the truth they attest do does not come from *them
>>
>>830686
>No, it is not
Yes it is
>>
>>830680
Eels and Caecilians aren't snakes.

Caecilians are amphibians and Eels are fish. The only similarity they have with snakes is body structure.
>>
>>830679
You are right. With Scripture, we also have the interpretive Tradition that came with it along the beliefs of the Church which ultimately find their origin in Christ.

This is not incompatible with Prima Scririptura but is incompatible with Sola Scriptura
