>thinking about studying history in college
>check their programs
>50% is national history and the rest is modern
>ancient, medieval and early modern his is barely covered in 2 courses
Why are /his/ programs so shit?
>my high school history teacher didn't know about Cyrus the great and the Persian empire
the bulk of it is looking at actual history in depth while those other 2 are crash courses for pseuds

>tfw the Byzantine history department got axed
This depends on your history program. More competitive programs (think Oxbridge and Ivy League) usually have greater strengths in specialty areas.

They figure they've covered enough world history in school. I had 2 god damn years of U.S. history in all my 12 years of required history classes. Granted the world history was focused on Europe, repeated a lot of stuff, and skipped around the timeline like an autistic chimp with tourette syndrome.
Come to think of it, school history sucks.

>High School World History
>We start off Medieval with the Franks and Charlemagne
>Holy fuck this might be pretty good
>Franks and Charlemagne are only about 3 days of class
>Once Charlemagne is done we spend the rest of the time on the Crusades
>Byzantine Empire is only mentioned when necessary.
Feels really bad man.
