The ending sentence of Tacitus 'Agricola' 11 has always been potent to me:
"Step by step they were led to things which dispose to viceāthe lounge, the bath, the elegant banquet. And in their ignorance they called all of this civilisation, when in fact it was but a part of their servitude."
Always felt that Tac-Man had read a good portion of Seneca's letters.
