Is there anyway for the moors to have successfully held Spain and Portugal. And have maintained a presence in Europe
>>
>>49259
No because they're muslims.
>>
Self bumb
>>
>>49259
If they could somehow stop progress of christian iberia amd rest of europe
>>
>>49259
They did, they're just Catholics now
>>
>>49275
The ottomans held out until the first world war.
>>
>>49259
shouldnt have devolved into petty infighting between different taifas.
>>
>>49259

Yes.

The reason for their fall was (1) they kept fracturing into rival principalities and city-states and (2) became politically isolated with the Islamic heartlands in North Africa and the Middle East.
>>
>>49340
Nah mate, they held out to this day through colonisation, Sunni Islam being the majority religion in Albania and Bosnia to this day
>>
>>49367
Lets say the Moors united under a single sultan. Could they have held off the Spanish or would a new crusade have destroyed them
>>
>>49476

>Lets say the Moors united under a single sultan. Could they have held off the Spanish

Easily. It was the infighting and the disintegration of Al-Andalus into different taifas that basically made the Reconquista even possible.
>>
>>49688
So let's say the Spanish are beaten and conquered. And the Spanish plea to the pope for help. And instead of a crusade for Levant they call a crusade for Iberia. Could they have held of the crusaders
>>
>>49760

Probably not, they got their shit slapped when they tried to enter France. Theorising about a united muslim superpower would be the same as thinking about a united Europe. It would have been powerful but everything falls apart
>>
>>49760

>instead of a crusade for Levant they call a crusade for Iberia.

Except that Iberia isn't the Holy Land, unlike Jerusalem, and was economically less important compared to the Levant. So it's unlikely that the Pope would've even given a shit and declared a crusade, and even if he had, it's unlikely that the same amount of Europeans would come to the aid of the Visigothic Iberians.

>they got their shit slapped when they tried to enter France

The Battle of Tours wasn't a concerted invasion effort by Muslim Andalusians. The idea of invading France and subjecting it to Muslim rule was never a serious objective of the Muslim kingdoms of Iberia. What happened at Tours was the result of a raid consisting mainly of Muslim Visigoths to capture as much booty as they could, a raid which went wrong when the main raiding party got intercepted by the Franks.

Crusading was a big in BOTH iberia and the east. It was arguably more active in iberia because it was closer to Christendom, read more senpai

The negatives are that the European powers like the hre and France don't have to travel as far. But the Pyrenees are a bitch to cross for large unorganized armies like the crusader armies
>>
>>50462
>believing this
The Muslims wanted to conquer Europe and got destroyed by out hero Charles Martel, and then go betaen out if Spain because they were horrible people and raped the county the occupied

There's no such thing as "the moors", the name is a "classicism" used by iberian christians to name the multitude of muslims living in the peninsula and north africa. In reality there was a minority of muslim arab rulers, ruling over, at first, a majority christian population, which in some cases arabized while retaining their religion (mozarabs), or simply converted to islam. This process was at times gradual and slow, often times forced (like the almohads forced convertions of christians and jews during the XIII century). There was also migrations of pastoralist berber tribes that often served as military manpower, and sometimes where a source of conflict and rebellions. There was also jews.

No, because Iberian victory against the african invaders was God's will

The Pope did call for Crusades several times during the Reconquista. The first Crusade ever happened in Spain shortly before the one to the Holy Land. And the war of Granada was given status of Crusade by the Pope. Learn what a Crusade is.

Also, the idea of invading France and beyond was a thing because it was consustantial with the very concrpt of jihad for spreading Islam that was at very heart of the whole fucking thing. There were many raids, that lasted long after the meme battle of Tours in which actually the muslims, syrians and berbers basically, not 'visigoth spanish' ffs, were the ones attacking the defensive frankish infantry until giving up and turning back with the loot. The real important figure here was Duke Odo of Aquitaine, who carried for decades the weight of dealing with incursions somehow succesfully while the Frankish King was doing siesta.

Also, yes, Al Andalus could have perfectly survived and maintained his hegemony over Spain if it hadn't implode into a number of kingdoms. But again that was likely to happen due to the internal problematic of the Caliphate.
