you need to take into account even if the mongols had don't lose the motivation after each khan died the had to go back to Mongolia to bury the old khan and for the new khan to ascend to power so that gives the Europeans time to recover and rebuild a bit and come up with means to counter the Mongols and that's without taking into account rebellions that don't shatter the empire

I'm not sure, but isn't the process of a kurultai a bit different? I thought the important part was not the burial but the election of a new Great Khan, and the problem being that votes were cast by attendance, so if you didn't show up to a kurultai you automatically voted against the proposed Great Khan.
That seems somewhat more pragmatic and reasonable than "the generals poised to invade Europe dropped everything to show up for a burial".

No, Mongols took Europeans by suprise and the initial push was the only one where they had success. When the Europeans saw against they are dealing with, they rekt them. Even Russians that were conquered fucked them from inside and practically eradicated their people.

The mongols got rekt when they reinvaded Hungary after Ogedei's death. Their limited success in eastern europe was just from catching them off guard. Had Ogedei not died we would probably be learning about some Tours-esque battle in Germany or Italy where the mongols had their asses kicked back to the steppes.

They conquered China. Conquering Europe would be easy, in comparison.

China had huge armies, many times larger than what the Europeans could muster. And they had pretty good technology.

Their terrain was also not the best for the Mongol tactics. Take a look at their geological map and you will understand what I mean.

Not to be pedantic but they didn't so much as collapse as turn around. They were about to sweep through Poland but the Khan died and so they had to return to Mongolia to elect a new one.

Of course, even if it came down to it, it wasn't like the Mongols were never defeated. If it wasn't for Mamluk victory in the battle of Ain-Jalut the Mongols probably would've rolled into North Africa.

Technology and numbers aren't everything

There is certain thing about Chinese people you have to understand. They despise chaos. Absolutely despise chaos. This is deeply buried in their culture, was already deeply buried by that time. Pure chaos(civil wars) was something you've had to do, but intended, organised chaos(wars) could be avoided.

This is why Mao tried to push cultural revolution. He may have had rich and prosperous nation of billion but realised it would be better to have poor and fucked up nation of 800 million but willing to spread the revolution instead.
