'The Picture Gallery of the Nations', 2nd ed., 1874. It's a ethnographic work published by the London-based 'Religious Tract Society'. I scored a copy from a used book sale for a buck, which was a deal I'm quite pleased with.

I assume said society belonged to a hardline Protestant sect, because this book has a section on Italians in general, a section on Venetians specifically, and another section on Romans, wherein it is reported that modern-day Rome still houses some interesting historical artifacts, but
>"There is a drawback upon the splendid and interesting objects in Rome. [...] It is the extreme filth and shabbiness of the wretched town which surrounds them. In Rome you search in vain for cleanliness or neatness. You never saw any place so nasty or so beggarly."

All monks are filthy and the Papists are barely removed from barbaric paganism anyways.

>The early Italians are described by Horace, a Latin poet, as a strong, busy and cheerful race, well used to labour, frugal in their food, and happy in their cottage homes. But during a long course of ages they have fallen from their high estate; and especially under the influence of the Roman Catholic religion, have become a far inferior race to their forefathers, whether in their physical condition, manners, or virtues.

The Victorians have spoken.

And it led to a fag like you that disrespects your grandmother. I don't believe you anyway, like every nigger claims to be a prince every american claims to be descended from important Europeans. If you knew anything at all about heredity you would know that everyone in the world and especially in Europe can claim hundreds of notable antecedents.

Not that it matters, only a failure makes claims on other's achievements.
