The Greek Empire was the East Roman Empire and the Frankish Empire was the successor of the Western Roman Empire.

I believe the Roman Senate survived some time after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. And there is always the Papacy, that could be considered the Roman Empire, in a way, even nowadays.
