I'm paraphrasing something I read by Robert Reich, but it helps to think of ideologies as tools to get what you want. I.e. a hammer is good at one task, but maybe it's okay to use a wrench for other things.

You could sub in socialism for the hammer and capitalism for the wrench. It's childish to attach yourself to one of these things in much the same way.
