Which Christianity. Catholic, Protestant, or Nestorian?

Jesus's own brother was Chinese so pretty big

Top kek

To be fair, they killed him long before Mao arrived
>>
>>3362682
All, just generally Christian
>>
Very basic overview.
Nestorian was big during the Tang, but not that big compared to other religions. Died out before Mao. Catholicism spread around Macua and southern China (Portuguese), or even areas around the Yangtze river valley (Shanghai French concession) there's also some catholic churches in middle of knowwhere southwest China preaching to minority peoples.

Protestant churches are/were big around Eastern China, specifically Zhejiang and Jiangsu. During the end of the Qing, they had the Taiping rebellion, devastating the Yangtze river area, and BTFOing protestant China. Today the base of protestant Christianity is also Zhejiang and the Yangtze area, but it's not as localized, so you have batshit crazy Chinese protestants trying to spread their religion (sometimes through lethal means) and authorities trying to muzzle them.

Is it true that China is projected to be a Christian country or at least at the level of South Korea?
>>
>>3362801
On absolute numbers terms yes.
As percentages work, no.
Chinese are too nationalistic and would opt for more traditional religions on average. Taoism, Buddhism, Confucian rituals will probably increase at higher rates than Christianity.

And Yuan. When it was officially supported and not just 'tolerated'.

Also, you didn't mention Eastern Orthodox, as I think the Russian Empire sent some people to China regarding it.
>>
>>3362819
True, but I'm not sure how much Orthodoxy in China were Russian emigrants during the Russian Civil War versus actual patriarchs and priests trying to convert locals in mass,

>>3362814
To expound on this, the growth of all religion in China is probably a lost cause as westernization, development, or consumerist culture will end up replacing all forms of traditional culture as it already has with the west.
>>
>>3362692
the cousin of Jesus's brother was too
>>
>>3362656
Mao didn't have many Christians to persecute. While there was some proselytizing during the republican period, the late Qing empire virulently persecuted Christians after they were implicated in the massive civil war known as the Taiping Rebellion.

That said, a higher percentage of Chinese are Christian now than have ever been before.

The Boxer Rebellion was triggered in large part as a reaction to the success of Christian missionaries in China. The goal was to push Christianity out of the country and protect traditional Chinese values. And although the rebellion was crushed militarily, it largely succeeded in its goal of stopping the growth of Christianity in China. Many Christian missionaries were tortured or killed, and those who got out alive were understandably reticent to go back.
>>
>>3362692
Taiping Rebellion was stupid as hell
>>
There were quite a few missionaries in the imperial court.
