The French and Spanish, and to a lesser extent the Dutch and English. France and Spain owned the most territory in the New World by a very wide margin.

But that's not really relevant. French was the lingua franca (hence the origin of that phrase) of Europe. Matters of international commerce or law were discussed in French. If you wanted to be a diplomat you had to speak French.

Depends on what colour you wanted.
Purple was considered the colour of royalty because the dye was derived from the harvesting of a particular species of sea creatures that only lived in specific parts of the world. Thus it was also fuck off expensive. Other colours, derived from more ordinary sources, were much cheaper and even a common peasant could 'afford' them.

Litterally singing about a thing isn't a reference.

Not really. Vivid reds, yellows and blues are perfectly possible to achieve with hedgerow plants.

Red dye is cheap as shit mate, you can get it from countless sources, that's why it's so popular.

Yellow is a little more difficult. Isn't saffron the only real source of it, besides that one lead compound and a few artificial compounds that are only possible in a lab? Besides that, there are a few flowers but most aren't native to Europe, I don't think.
Meanwhile, red flowers are abundant, and green/blue are everywhere from copper compounds to green chlorophyll.

Actual ancient cities would of never grown that big, remember people had to walk everywhere.

If you've seen any of the Baroque and later castles, they all have solid walls without showing the stonework underneath.
Medieval castles had it too, like seen in >pic related.

Worth mentioning the average middle-ages peasant wasn't as poor as usually portrayed, the middle class was very big in Europe at the time the black death started. It was really after that when everything went back downhill for a while.

I haven't, but that looks really cool! I wonder tho if a military fortification would really bother?

Depends on what purpose you have for building it.
Seeing as a castle is also a home there is an incentive for making it reasonably pretty.
Some primary purposes of border fortifications such as Hadrian's Wall is to demonstrate the might of the builder and channeling trade which means that having it look good can be quite important.
