Part of a new argument between a friend and I. A week or two ago he popped "gender is a spectrum" and "james damore was wrong; you can't even tell the difference between a male and female brain, the differences are cultural" on me and I had to rewind and prod him a bit on that

I don't think modern debate really changes many people's points of view. It shows one person is better at debate than the other(s) are.
If a person is unsure of the topic the person that is better at debate may sway them but the majority of people that watch debates already have a clear idea in mind of what they think and are either watching it to root for the one that complements their belief or to mock those that don't.
All a debate can really do is set forth your points and hope that a majority of people see it how you do and rally behind you while enough of the others just hate your debating opponent(s) guts and will shit on them more than they do you.
