Explain to me why Maoists considered Confucianism to be such a problem. Confucianism to me always seemed like pretty bland stuff. "Respect your parents." "Be nice to other people." "Don't make an ass of yourself in public." The sort of thing that very few people would take offense to. Also, how is Confucius viewed in modern China? Is he still a bad guy, or is the government cool with him now?
Confucianism has some hardcore metaphysics and theology which are notions most Marxists avoid like the plague.
Plus it is a strong reminder of an imperial past which would be at odds with the socialist future. Retrograde in their eyes.
Though I recall that Neo-Confucianism did become pretty popular for a while in the 60's and 70's, though I am not sure about today.

Respect elders, Respect parents, Respect family.
All counter the "worship Mao" mantra.

Did Mao actually want people to worship him as a god or something?

It's "reactionary" and it encourages devotion towards the Emperor, which was a real problem for the ComChi's in the early days of their rule. Modern CCCP members take a much more tolerant view of Confucius, mainly because they no longer see any danger of a revival of the Empire, just as the USSR grew more tolerant towards Orthodoxy as the real danger of a reactionary counter-revolution faded.

Not as a goal in itself but to manipulate plebe masses he sure did. (kinda like Kim Jong Un, but not hereditary since his son got BTFO)

The results speak of volume. He may "claim" he's not a demi-god, but all his propaganda/laws put into place made him into a demi-god.

He doesn't mean literally, but Mao had a huge cult of personality after he purged his party of dissidents with the Cultural Revolution.
