Is technology making gender roles obsolete?
The traditional male-female gender roles emerged not out of morality, but out of necessity. It was absoluetely essential to the survival of the group that the male muscles were used to do the hard labour and defend the group from foreign invaders, while the females did the lighter work, as well as nurturing and raising the children.
Due to industrialisation the muscles are not really needed anymore. Most of the hard work is done by robots already, and even military is in the process of being largely done by drones. This leads to women being able to do basically every job men do, and thus to much more independence and freedom for them. This results in a labour market, where most people work in a workplace that is gender-mixed. There are tendencies that women rather go into social jobs while men tend to go into STEM jobs, but those differences are statistically much lower than most people think. Most workplaces are gender-mixed.
Then there is also a biological reason why gender roles emerged the way they did, that is the role Sex played. A woman can get pregnant from Sex, while a man can't. This results into women being very cautios and picky with whom they sleep, because they might end up pregnant, Meanwhile Men tried to sleep with as many women as possible, because it had no consequences for them and Sex is fun. This is where the traditional image comes from that a man is the one that should conquer the woman, and a man that sleeps with a lot of women is regarded highly. Meanwhile women are supposed to be picky, which is why a woman that sleeps with everyone is seen as cheap, a slut, and basically failing her role.
However, with the invention of reliable perception methods this biological reason does no longer exist. A woman now can also have sex without having biological consequences, so she now can have sex just for fun, just like men did all these millenias.

Answering your question:
It depends on what you consider a gender role, who said women are incapable of being leaders? and who said men cannot be good caretakers?
You have several instances of women who are until today revered as good leaders or who were very important in political matters(Catherine the great, Elizabeth from England)
But you clearly can say there is a curve to which make men usually better leaders, and women better caretakers.
Sociology blames the gender roles, as they do with patriarchy and etc... Yet they don´t have a proof to any of that, they are since the end of WW1 blaming ghosts.
Evolutionary psychology, with biology itself says that men have a higher variety of mutations(therefore this is one thing no matter what sociologists says, men have different since they are born[not better just different])
So you have an difference it cannot ever be corrected, men will always be the best and the worst at the same time, so it makes total sense they be 90% of the leaders(as leaders are what 5 % of population?), no matter what you do.
Wrapping up, because I am drunk as fuck and my points are probably all out of order...
Men and women will never be the same, the theory of sociologists that say men and women would be the same if they received the same incentive does not make any sense in biology
As both have literally evolved to do stuff differently...
