In my culture studying history and discussing history either from 100 years ago or 500 years ago is viewed as a problem and there is no benefit to look back at histroy. I have been worried about talking about this on /his/ or even looking at this place for a long time now but this is my first post and I am ready to get back into this as a hobby
Can you tell me if it is a problem to look back at history and I don't mean daily but every few months finding some hole on the internet and reading about a different era?

My friend, I am quite older than most on 4chan and I have studied the classics before and I enjoyed them, oh how I enjoyed reading and discussing this stuff but eventually something happened
I overheard someone talking about me and my hobby being studying histroy is a problem in life and I should not be so interested in looking so far back in the past. I enjoyed this as a hobby for a long time, and have read everything. The issue is I don't know anymore if it is acceptable to be this deep into history. My culture believes it is an issue to reflect this much on history
I'm in the US btw, but my culture is different very different
