It was started in the name of an egalitarian society, but ended up being the platform of power for an insecure short (5'6") mustachioed man to fuck over everybody that he could get his hands on. It finally fell to an empty charade of what it was meant to be in its later years after ineffectual chairman after ineffectual chairman took power and drove it into the ground.

A net loss for humanity and a case study to the evils of pure ideology mixed with blatant corruption of power.

Much of the USSR was rural mud road towns, polluted industrial towns, military bases, and wilderness. Only in the top few regions was anything comparable to US suburbia achieved. They did have public healthcare though, at least. But most of the West does too.
