It's true Trotsky wanted to literally completely eradicate orthodox christianity and kill off the priesthood/abolish the churches, and Lenin didn't listen to him in that regard, but it hardly makes Stalin a friend of the church.

During the height of Stalin's purges, some 300,000 orthodox priests were killed. Stalin didn't even start playing nice with the church until Hitler launched operation barbarossa, and Stalin went full "muh Alexander Nevsky" to frame his war as a nationalist Russian war against an invader that wanted to wipe out their ethnicity, rather than a war between bolshevism and Nationalsocialism, cause he knew Russians would rather fight and die for mother Russia than for bolshevism.
