Hey /his/, I'm looking to do a painting set during the June rebellion in France however cannot find historical reference for French police uniforms in the 1830s aside from the film Les Misérables. However I doubt the historical accuracy of the costumes. Does anyone know the history of French police uniforms or what they might have been like at this time.
Many thanks. Picture not related.
Gendarmerie regiments were called into the city to supress, look for those guys uniforms

That's 1824 however I appreciate the effort, the uniforms for the military changed in 1830 following the July revolution so I'm assuming it would also for changed for the police. That's why it's hard to find reference. I know the National Guard took part in the most part of the fighting but it's what the everyday police might be wearing I am looking for.

Just look paintings about the "trois glorieuses" for inspiration

All I have is the gendarmes uniformes. It seems they stayed more or less the same way into the XIXth century. Here is 1830

Here you have the evolution of the foot gendarmerie uniforme, the bicorne got smaller as time went by, until it was replaced by a képi.

And here you can see the mounted gendarmerie kept bicornes till the end of the XIXth century.

Now the police, you have the sergent de ville, the equivalent to a police constable, and not a military like the gendarmes.

And finally the uniformes of a garde de paix and a sergent de ville, again during the july monarchy.
