This underrated and ignored man saved the world from communism.

He confronted them, not when they were a decadent paper tiger like in Reagan's time, but when they were at their strongest, dominating half of the world and with Western Europe in turmoil and at great risk of falling pray to their siren song.

The Marshall Plan and NATO were two strokes of brilliance and boldness that saved democracy from falling prey to the largest army in the world at the time and the strongest totalitarian state that ever existed at its peak.

Yes. The NFA could have been much worse. The US could have had Britain tier terrible Gun laws if it wasn't for some senators and representatives. FDR still signed it.
>Literally the only reason why the NFA got passed were scare tactics about the Mob/Outfit (they used Sawn-Off shot guns and Tommy guns/SBRs). At that time they were mostly bankrupt due to repeal of Prohibition.

Ike, LBJ, and Nixon were great, forceful men who led great, forceful presidencies. They led the nation through some of its greatest and darkest hours. Truly they were great men. That said, all three were pretty cynical and did some really shady things. Carter was the only decent President, which is unsurprising given that he ran on a platform of transparency and decency.

>>3322964
There's also this. Carter let Volcker reign in the economy during his Presidency (it wouldn't have been so noticeable without the Oil Crisis) to ensure that the economy wouldn't go into a big boom-bust cycle.

How did that American-sponsored anti-communism work out for ya?

Pre-coup
>In 1971, the first year of the Allende government, the GNP increased 8.9 percent; industrial production rose by 11 percent; agricultural output went up by 6 percent; unemployment, which at the end of the Frei government was above 8 percent, fell to 3.8 percent. Inflation, which in the previous year had been nearly 35 percent, was reduced to an annual rate of 22.1 percent.

post
>The inflationary process, which the junta’s policies stimulated immediately after the coup, was slightly reduced in 1975 as compared to the unbelievable rate of 375.9 percent in 1974. Such a minor reduction, however, does not indicate any substantial approach to stabilization and seems on the whole utterly irrelevant to the majority of Chileans who must endure the total collapse of their economy. This situation recalls the story of a Latin American dictator at the beginning of this century. When his advisers came to tell him that the country was suffering from a very serious educational problem, he ordered all public schools closed. Now, more than seventy years into this century, there still remain disciples of the anecdotal dictator who think that the way to eradicate poverty in Chile is to kill the poor people.

Nice strawman, communist manchild.

As for your post
1. That happened Chile (a different country)
2. That happened in 1973 (after Truman)
3. It would still have fared worse under a communist regime (see Cuba, Venezuela)

Ideally Pinochet should have handed over power to the Supreme Court according to the Constitution. (Which Allende had violated by arming militias, overruling Congress, and behaving like a dictator way before anyone moved against him)

The overthrow was morally correct, Pinochet's government wasn't.

In addition, your post cleverly ommits the years 1972 and 1973 when Chile's economy was basically collapsing due to Allende's policies.

So basically your support of Allende is based on ONE "good" year of economic growth while ignoring the two terrible years of depression that followed.

Mistakes were made.
No leader is perfect IMHO.
But if I had to pick a 20th century US president it would be Truman.

I just have a really really low expectation for US presidents after 1929.

lmao what? Truman was literally America's first Zionist president, created the CIA, and laid the first steps into disrupting Iran (which Eisenhower would complete). He let Jewish spies in by the hundreds because he was such a pushover for muh Judeo-Christian values, which is how Stalin was able to steal our nuclear tech.

1) Inherited from 30 years of CIA dickery
2) Inherited from the Nixon shock and petrodollar

Can you give a couple examples of enacted macroeconomic policies which were empirically determined to be beneficial?

Carter deregulated domestic oil prices. which caused a huge increase in supply, and a huge drop in price. leading to the Oil Glut of the late 80s, and the collapse of the soviet union.

Democrat congress before and after the collapse.

couldn't even reinstate glass-stegal. so we don't have to bail out investing firms again, because they are no longer tied to commercial banking.

the rich got richer. their companies got bailed out. the executives got huge bonuses or golden parachutes. the workers got laid off.

takes ownership of GM stock as part of the bail out. sells it at a loss.

a hedge fund bought Delphi Automotive parts. threaten to close all the american factories and move it to mexico or china unless the government bails them out. governmet bails them out. the hedge fund still moved the factories over seas. Mitt Romney made 16 million off a 800,000 investment.

all the stimulus money went to california, the north east, and florida. new business activity basically stops everywhere else in the country. big reason why Trump won. everyone in the fly over states was fucking pissed because the recovery never happened to them.

no one went to jail. even though there was plenty of evidence of shady shit.

Carter and others say that the Soutern Baptist church was going nuts. So he started a new church with out the crazy.

Carter still teaches sunday school every week. Even though he is over 90 and survived brain cancer.

Carter worked for a charity. He didn't start a fake charity like the Clintons, to rake in hundreds of millions from muslim dictators.

The man is a fucking Saint.

Whatever Congress did is Obama's fault.
K.

>the rich got richer. their companies got bailed out. the executives got huge bonuses or golden parachutes. the workers got laid off.
He has no control over what the banks did with their money. Yes, he could have implemented pay ceilings or conditioned the stimulus money to not go to bonuses, but if he did that people would have complained about OBONGO THE MARXIST SOCIALIST even more than they did.

>all the stimulus money went to california, the north east, and florida. new business activity basically stops everywhere else in the country. big reason why Trump won. everyone in the fly over states was fucking pissed because the recovery never happened to them.
Economic policies take time to kick in. The US economy is currently booming because of what Obama did, do you think it's just instant magic to re-start the world ecobomy from the worst depression since 1929?

Trump is reaping the benefits of what Obama did, that's a fact.

>no one went to jail. even though there was plenty of evidence of shady shit.
This is a fair point.
Don't expect the "swamp" to be drained anytime soon though, much less by the orange clown and the literal Goldman Sachs cronies he appointed in his administration.
>>
>>3331261
>goldman sachs

Hillary Clinton should have the Goldman Sachs logo tattoed across her forehead. The clintons had a lot of goldman sachs bankers in their administration. their daughter married a goldman sachs higher up. they've been paid huge sums in "speaking fees" by goldman sachs and other huge banks.
