See that's something many people don't get. A lot of our behaviour as it relates to groups we are part of is simply an extension of behaviour relating to ourselves.
Just like my accomplishments matter to me, the group's (in whatever way one chooses to define that) accomplishments matter to the group. As I'm part of the group, I care for the accomplishments, even if I'm not personally responsible for them.
