Any attempt to look at the age of Egypt must depend on the period you are looking at.

It is hardly wise to consider Ptolemaic Egypt as the same Egypt of the Ottomans or the same Egypt of Mina *sniffles* etcetera and so on.

The first Pharaoh that we have knowledge of was established around 3100 B.C. so that is generally considered to be the beginning of Egyptian history. As much as I hate to use Wikipedia as a source, this is a pretty good summation and it gives you an idea just how fucking old Egypt really is. For a frame of reference, the Illiad was written sometime around 800 BC.
