Chinese-attacking Huns/Proto-mongols

Ancient central asian super power. Could field >300K cavalry at time for war.
But Han' destroyed their empire. Remnants of the old super power tookover Eurasian tribes and formed the Huns. Lasted until last of the Xiongnu died off (with Atilla)
A confederation of steppe tribes. Western Xiongnu had also Slavics/Germanics whereas Eastern Xiongnu had Iranics, Tungusics, Mongolians, Turkics etc

They didn't become Huns.

they were aryans

By their description they were probably heavily mongolized by then, a continious process in Centrak Asia

>they were aryans

We know there's probably a connection between the Huns and the Xiongnu. We know that Atilla and the ruling class of the Hun is described by a Roman diplomat as a "mongolian" looking man. If we assume the same ruling class is Xiongnu, then it would lend credit to the Xiongnu as a proto-mongolian people.
The theory about intermixing is true too. The people who previously ruled the area were the Yeuzhi nomadic group. We know that this is the sogdian/scythian branch of iranian-asian people. The Xiongnu displaced them and drove them westward. The Chinese record states that the Yeuzhi tookover the Bactrian kingdom and one of the Yeuzhi prince/king established the Kushan dynasty.
As the Xiongnu were mostly considered to be a confederation, chances are they were mixed with iranian-asian people and the proto-mongolian people that came to rule the area. With hints of proto-mongolian as the ruling class (as seen by Atilla's description).
There's also Xianbei/Rouran/Tatar, another proto-mongolian nomadic group that would takeover after the collapse of the Xiongnu territories. As they were a member of Xiongnu, chances are they were one of the powerful group in Xiongnu.

>Genghis at his zenith could only field ~100k cavalry
H-how did they get 300k?

Read the genetics part
They were N(SIberians) Q(Mongols), and C(Mongols)

That is the paternal line and haplogroups. Certain parts of Central-Asia got RICE'd, their Europoid maternal line and autosomal dna would still be observable. Even modern Mongols have 15% European heritage.

the Xiongnu could have contained a leading Iranian component when they started out, but more likely they had earlier been subjects of an Iranian people and learned from them the Iranian nomadic model.
>The ruler of the Xiongnu was called the Chanyu later refined by Rouran as "Khan"
>The Yenisei Kirghiz Khagans claimed descent from Xiongnu (Chinese Li Ling + daughter of the Xiongnu Khan)
>Xiongnu are Mongoloids
>Xiongnu used Chanyu/Khanyu title synonymous with Khan
>it is suggested that Indo-European Wusun used the royal title "Kunmi"
>Beckwith specifically suggests an Indo-Aryan etymology of the title Kunmi
>IE word Kunmi possibly the root for Khan
>Hun = Khan = Hunnu = Xiongnu = Hunya = Chanyu = Kunmi (similar shit)
>Huns were in fact descendants of the Northern Xiongnu who migrated westward
>the title “Khan“ was original to the Rourans
>The region experienced a Mongolification and was eventually occupied predominantly by peoples showing Mongoloid features, known from their skeletal remains and artifacts
tl;dr Scythians transferred their technology/skills/culture to Mongoloids and then got erased by them

the Mongoloid steppe people all were ruled by Huns/Khans. Various Turks, Mongols, Tungus, Uralics were ruled under the same Khan/Hun. The Chinese called them Hunnu, Xiongnu, Hunya, Chanyu. The Mongoloid steppe people all share a similar origin in adopting the Scythian lifestyle
