>tfw you let the greatest empire in world history die
tbf I think he was like 14 when he was deposed
>>3299791
What the fuck was he going to do? the WRE was completely unable to muster an army that would be required to retake the now much poorer italian region, and the ERE was content to keep in the balkans and anatolia and politic itself to death.

obviously he was supposed to take that spear and personally kick the barbarians out of the empire's borders according to great man theory

This is why emperors suck. If Rome had stayed a Republic, it would still be the dominant power in Europe.

>What the fuck was he going to do?

Didn't Majorian have a significant military force which was like maybe 10 years before the "fall" of the WRE?
>he thinks the Roman Empire ended in 476

Western is the only one that counted.
To be honest its possible Honorius could have survived. If he wasn't convinced to kill Stilicho the West could have ticked along a bit longer. It would also have helped if he tried to take a more dominate role in leadership but I assume the men around him wanted a weak willed Emperor and would probably have killed him if he tried. But killing Stilicho was without a doubt the cause of it all going to hell, when the Romans killed him they were so worried about the men loyal to him rising up against them that they went full retard and did everything they could to make them hate the Romans more.
Fuck rome. Carthage should have destroyed them long ago.

You mean the Eternal Teuton who was already assimilated and Christian by the time he knocked on the doors of Ravenna? Odoacer was not a bad guy
>>3299791
>let it die
He was a kid with virtually his entire army marching on his palace in Ravenna. There was jack shit he could do.
His lack of importance is shown by the fact that Odoacer sent him to live in Campania with a pension. He didn't even bother to kill him.
There's even serious debate on whether or not he was a real emperor or not. Nepos is often considered the last of the Emperors, and the dissolution of the west pushed back to 480.

Odoacer had the power anyway, he just didn't bother proclaiming himself Emperor. To say that Enlightenment era schools of thought did a disservice to Byzantium is one point, but what they did to Odoacer is ridiculous.

He'll be fine
