They aren't. To say that they are is an unjustified generalization. Schizophrenia is worse than missing your pinky fingers. However, missing a leg is worse than having social anxiety. It all depends on what exact physical and psychological problems you are comparing.

Because the brain is highly complex and not easily remedied. You can't build a crutch for your crippling social anxiety or autism. You can only hope to find some chemical that radically alters your brain chemistry in the right direction, without crippling you in other ways
