what the fuck was the point of this bloody thing? it was an overengineered piece of crap that nobody needed.
>let's put all the crew in the turret!
>let's make the main cannon be able to fire shitty chilli missiles
>fuck it, make it 50 tons!!!
Interesting fact OP. The original tank, called Mother, was a male tank. Early on the designers realised that a heavy tank with one turret was vulnerable to being attacked by swarms of men who could throw a grenade in. So they designed a accompany the large gunned male tank. The female tank would have machine guns to repel infantry.
Modern tanks are hermaphrodites, with heavy guns and machine guns.

Sorry, that should say they designed a female tank to accompany the male.
Iirc the early male tanks had more than one gun but they were slow firing and still vulnerable to infantry swarms.

Modern tank designs call for night camouflage and are painted black. The female tanks all swarm around the black males, who are lighter, faster, stronger and have longer turrets.
In comparison, the heavier, slower white tanks usually just cower in the rear, mumbling something about I.Q.

If you actually want to know, it's that the army tried to "plan ahead" and stuck every cool gadget and potential cool gadget in a tank to "future proof" it. Kind of like how F-22 has basically every feature for a fighter when it was designed in the late 80's.
Except the technology wasn't quite ready, and a lot of things didn't work. Think if they tried to build the F-22 in 1980 instead of 1990.
