i didnt mean it was a conspiracy, but that god has a strange cruel humour, he couldve planted a low-rise berg with a huge underbelly, one that could never have been noticed, but instead we get one 4 storey iceberg front and center

If the ship had hit the iceberg straight on, the ship would have been damaged, but not fatally, and it would have been able to make it to the shore mostly intact. However, the ship turned to try and avoid the iceberg at the last minute, causing it to make a nasty gnash along the entire side of the ship. This made it impossible to contain the flooding in any meaningful way.
