Should Truman have listened to MacArthur and nuked the Chinese? If he did would this have given the US the edge against China's manpower reserves to win the war or would the USSR have attacked NATO with nukes in retaliation?

Any literature or articles someone has on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Was the USSR at that time already prepared to respond to american agression with nukes, effectively starting the nuclear war?

Or could USA have gone with it?
