Fuck, this still rings true.

>Writing will create forgetfulness in the learners’ souls, because they will not use their memories; they will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves. The specific which you have discovered is an aid not to memory, but to reminiscence, and you give your disciples not truth, but only the semblance of truth; they will be hearers of many things and will have learned nothing; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing; they will be tiresome company, having the show of wisdom without the reality.

This is true for me entirely. When I write or type a thought down, it causes me to sorta forget it. I can still work back up to that thought process, but it seems like it almost resets my mental progress.
I also think that language is not complex enough to translate all the logic and patterns and rules that are important to having a true understanding. If someone were to try, it would come out as constant repetition and rambling.

Start with the Greeks. Also pic related isn't the worst guide to follow (although some of the Early Greek works aren't strictly speaking philosophy but I didn't make the chart)

Ignore any moron who tells you to start with the Greeks. Anything the Greeks came up with that is valid has been extended and refined by later philosophers, so reading the Greeks first will simply fill your head with nonsense. Start with a modern writer, maybe Betrand Russel, then find an area of philosophy that interests you and start reading up on it. Don't be ashed to use wiki as a jumping off point, there's also the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, it has good articles on pretty much every topic in philosophy as well as extensive reading lists for deeper study.

Philosophy gets into you unfortunatelly.
