How different would Mexico be today if he won? Preferably nothing simplistic like "better" or "worse".

If he could establish a sustained regime, it would have fundamental consequences:
-administrative language changed to French, possibly leading to situations like Belgians (Dutch capital Brussels slowly turning Francophone due to French administrators and rulers)
-Possibly no American entry in WWI as the Zimmermann telegram would never be sent to the Mexican government
-possible additional French expansion in Central America
-possible English / other colonial expansion and recolonization of South America (e.g. Chile and the UK)
-increased European migration and investment in Mexico

Most of these sound like good things, particularly increased investment in Mexico.

Shit just got real

>Zimmerman Telegram
What about the unrestricted submarine warfare that actually got the U.S. to declare war
Anyways it's generally impossible to know, Maximilian seemed like a potentially good ruler but he did order massive executions and could set up a particularly awful monarchy down the line, generally I'd think his/the monarchy's rule would end a couple of decades after to a coup or revolution, especially if the U.S decided to get involved.

The telegram was the final trigger that provoked the US. If it didn't happen, the war would have been over by the time America would have entered without the telegram.

>especially if the U.S decided to get involved.
>thinking that gringo involved in Mexican politics after the 1848 war would have created a legitimate regime

Then again maybe there wouldn't have been a Franco Prussian war to begin with if Maximilian had been succesful. Napy III would have appeared stronger on the diplomatic scene and would maybe have been able to make fewer concessions to the liberals and the warmongers after a succesful Mexican expedition.
Hell maybe it would have even prevented his health from degrading as much from stress and he would have been able to conduct diplomacy in person with Bismarck.

I'm saying they would topple it, not make a good government.
>>3251432
Better.
>>3251432
I'm more interested to understand how and why was he murdered. Are mexicans retarded?
>>3252163
Well it was French foreign intervention to impose an Austrian monarch on them. They have hard time accepting ANY Mexican ruler let alone a foreigner.

Better
he didnt deserve to die
