1. Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian
Naval warfare, espionage, and naturalism during the Napoleonic Wars.
2. Masters of Rome series by Colleen McCullough
Epic and minutely historically detailed retelling of the last 80 years of the Roman Republic. Chronicles the rise and fall of Marius, Sulla, Pompey, Caesar, etc.
Huge power gap after those two.

50 shades of grey
The Conqueror Series by Conn Iggulden is fantastic. About the formation of the Mongols (the first book) and then their subsequent invasions. I think there are five of them. All are wonderful reads.

Bernard Cornwell
Hell on Wheels. There were a few bullshit moments, but I enjoyed it quite a lot.

James Clavell’s “Asian Saga” series are excellent (though “Whirlwind” is kinda meh) and four of them were made in to movies or tv mini-series.

The Pillars of The Earth by Ken Follett comes highly recommended from my 84 year old grandma who is a huge history buff
Also Rome and Deadwood for general vibes if not 100% historically correct content
