I'm salty because it was never guaranteed to happen in the way that it did. People like to prove their oh-so-mighty intelligence and wisdom by talking about how all empires are doomed to die and everything is one big cycle of rising and falling powers. In reality the Roman Empire was a hyperpower of the likes of which the world has never seen since. Its sheer inertia continued dragging it forwards. Despite the memes it wasn't destroyed by outside forces at all. Barbarian tribes wandered into a land that had long since wiped out 80% of its own army in decades of civil wars. From Honorius down to the civil wars between Aetius, Boniface and Felix, over decades the Roman army virtually went extinct.
