Ireland was once a self sustaining, fully functional country with a rich culture and language steeped in centuries of rich history. We had an unfortunate run in with Catholic missionaries who decided our Gods were blasphemous and so converted our country, as they did all over the world.
The English then decided they wanted us so so over a few decades of "Planting" Protestant settlers, stealing land, and executing anyone who opposed them they had control. They didn't allow us to speak our own language, they anglicised our names and place names. They tried, and mostly succeeded in eradicating our culture and heritage.
They treated us as less then human. We were forced to export all produce, bar the potato, to England. As a result, when a potato blight struck our only source of food was gone. Instead of letting us eat all the other food we were farming, they still enforced its exportation. At the time Ireland had a population of approx. 8 million. Millions died and emigrated in what is now classed as a genocide. Our population is now 4 million. We never recovered.
Follow this with multiple rebellion attempts and even more British crimes against humanity and we get to 1900. We finally start to make some progress towards independence in the following decades, achieving the status of The Irish Free State in 1922, and establishing a Republic in 1949.
This was the beginning of the end for the British Empire.
It didn't stop there and violence continued and continues to this day in parts of Ireland.
We are a proud country, proud of our heritage and strong national identity. We are not Britain or its colony, and we never were.

Most of the laws in Britain which people hate were put in place by the British Govt. as opposed to EU shittery, and the constant faggotry about "you aren't a country in the EU" is retarded.
Ireland is-like most European countries-it's own little nation with its own history and cultures some of which are alive to this day.
Gaelic language was already practically dead in all relevant parts of Ireland prior to WOI and Irish culture is plenty prevalent.
