Just finished reading pic related. I also read Poilu by Louis Barthas and Storm of Steel by Ernst Jünger.
What are other great memoirs?
Bonus points for pre ww1 ones.

Memoirs of General Radola Gajda (Moje paměti) are very good even as info about Russian civil war and especialy stuff around Kolchak (including politics in Russia and study of problems of White Russian armies/governments. Its easy to find pdf file, but its only in Czech
Just remembered Cossack Girl haven't read it but also on my list.

The only other memoir I've read is Japanese Destroyer Captain, which in retrospect wasn't that great, although I still certainly recommend it to anybody curious about pacific theater, or naval warfare in general.

Ceux de 14 by Maurice Genevoix.
I don't know if it exists in English though.

Got a name?

Do you really recomend it even though one has watch The Pacific?

Yeah. He's an excellent writer.

It begins with his childhood and ends with the destruction of Yamato. If you're hoping to read about life in post-war Japan, look elsewhere. Starts to get depressing about halfway through because it becomes painfully obvious that Japan can't win but he's obligated to keep fighting to the bitter end anyway.

Best ones are always depressing.
Thanks
Quartered safe out here.
Verlorene Siege ["Lost Victories"] is about Manstein sucking his own dick but I heard is good so I downloaded it.
For real though, Manstein was fucking good, he once defeated like a gorillion russians in the kerch peninsula coming for his back but he turned what divisions he could (he was conducting the siege of sevastopol) and routed the numerically superior force with his mostly infantry force.

How did he explained his autism in Sevastopol, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kursk and Dniepr?
>>3213400
I don't know man, haven't read it yet, I said I downloaded but heard is good. I'm guessing he probably blames Hitler or any other dead guy who can't defend himself when it comes to things not going well.
What do you mean by autism btw?

all quiet on the western front...a interesting ww2 one is I was hitlers pilot by hans baur.

autism
He talks about his early life and service in WWI. Then the rest of the book is about how he met Hitler and his years working for him. He also has a few chapters dedicated to Hitler's views on religion, women, etc.

I read All Quiet but it's a novel not a memoir. Even though it is taken from veterans expierences and the author's own.
