Humanities are simply the study of human behavior. History without humanities is a catalog, an autistic stacking of shit into arbitrary categories. Humanities without history is a popularity contest, because it divorces abstract reasoning from empirical observation, and relies on the rhetorical skills of its believers who can take refuge in it's own internal logical self-consistency.

/his/ is, always has been, and should stay, a place of vigorous debate. It has always thrived on dissenting opinions, just like what happens an academic history. It should be a place where marxists and /pol/lacks can debate the issues without feeling constantly ganged up on. There's always going to be pussies can't handle being in a thread with multiple people who disagree with them, and there's always going to be malcontents on both sides of the aisle which want /his/ to be their safe space.

The only thing we need to do better on is calling people out when they resort to ridicule, memes, and ad hominem attacks instead of sourced arguments. You should even be willing to call people out who's politics you agree with, and recognize in the abstract that what they are doing is not helping your cause but convincing people to resist it. There's no reason we can't settle our differences like civilized men, lads

/lit/ is generally a good board because most of the time people know what they're talking about since to actually discuss literature you must read it first. People here don't care about actual historiography, most of their knowledge comes from wikipedia, vidya or youtube videos. Shouldn't be surprising that the most discussed themes here are WW2 and Hitler. Pleb history to the core, it's like History Channel got its own board. When it comes to ACTUAL history, of course, since the catalog is always clogged with shitposts that have nothing to do with history because >humanities.

/pol/tards fall into this group, only what distinguishes them from others is that they lack any self-awareness. They come from a groupthink so strongly imposed on them they simply cannot discuss anything else from what's being shoved into their heads over there, even if they want to. The narrative is too deeply ingrained in their minds, that's why they shit up completely unrelated threads, because they view everything and everyone through the goggles of their own narrative. This cannot be changed if one lacks self-awareness like most of them do. It's like a cult at this point.

Well, shit. I had much more on /pol/ and some of the others there, but deleted it without re-reading it, because it would have detoriated into edgy nonsense rather quickly. It really sounds pro-/pol/ now, that was not my intention.

However, looking at the traffic for the boards, /pol/fags make a big majority, so shutting them up for a while like the other faggots will just not be feasable. I am probably way too desensitized towards /pol/shit to really care about them, but many here aren't (yet). The other groups are rather new (heh) to me in particular and their attitude is just plain wrong (newfags and memesters) or wrong again (muh expansion of our special snowflake ideas into other boards, we nkvdjidfcia nao).

None of that actually helps create a sustainable "board culture". There is nothing wrong with this being the "History & Humanities" board, it allows for a wider range of topics to discuss. Of course, we're all familiar with the kind of shit this can bring in when it comes to religion but there's a simple solution: ignore larpers.

As for the general condition of this board, it's quite simple.

Obviously, even with the worst garbage out of the way, there's still the matter of low-tier discussion. I am not going to claim that I'm knowledgeable on every topic out there so let me just say that we should all read moar. Also, this is not the fastest board so think a bit before making a post and do re-read it before hitting submit.
I feel like many posters do not check the catalog before making a new thread; oftentimes, several threads relating to the same topic may pop up. In addition, the quality of threads made can reach some very low levels sometimes; it would be nice if people could keep themselves from posting in some of the low effort threads that show up in the catalog on a daily basis and as I've written before, report those that violate global rule 3.

It may seem like there is no moderation on /his/ but if everyone did his part, we could improve the situation here, ourselves.
