when did the "right wing=individualism/capitalism and collectivism, statism=leftism" meme become mainstream and why?
is it because of the cold war?
i know it originated in america but to my understanding the conservatives in USA where in the past for interventionism just like European conservatives
Its entirely an American invention
But its not confined to just right wingers, I was reading the Unabomber manifesto and he was outlying that the greatest value in society is individualism, no wonder then you have all these leftypol kiddies lapping up that Stirner bullshit "the individual is basically a God".
In European philosophy (minus the eternal perfidious Anglo) the problem has always been one of defining positive freedom in political movements. From Absolutism, to the Enlightenment, to socialism and Fascism this has always been the essential political struggle.

>democracy is rule by the people
>republic is rule by law
Jesus Christ Americans never cease to amaze me.

its only that in America. Right wing in europe refers exclusively to stormfags. The small eurobrain cant handle such concepts and has to choose between either a communist dictatorship or a fascist one while the superior north americans can run their own lives in the comfy wilderness

That's the worst picture I've ever seen

Explain the European political spectrum to me in the same way OP did so I can understand
In USA it's right wing = individualism and left wing = collectivism, explain to me what right and left mean in Europe please
>communists asspained that their dictatorship is called a dictatorship
Fucking insanity.

from your description, that sounds a lot like redefining morally acceptable behavior as "freedom"

>explain to me what right and left mean in Europe please
Left
>Progress, egalitarianism, universal humanism
right
>Tradition, hiearchy, paternalism

left wing = wanting to minimize social hierarchy or remove it entirely. Its seen as naturally exploitative and perhaps inefficient, so society should be radically changed to remove hierarchy
center = social hierarchy is inevitable to some degree, but social mobility should be supported by the system.
right wing = social hierarchy is desirable, for example to increase a nation's strength or instill its values. people should know and respect their place in society and contribute accordingly. social mobility is relatively rare and in some cases impossible under the given system.

If I were president, I'd leave everyone else alone but gas libertarians just for being sanctimonious Dunning-Kruger cunts.

the absolute ignorance of americucks is astounding, no wonder people want you rangebanned from this board
>>3208886
False. This is not the premise the European right argues, it is your interperation/opinion of it. The European right is mostly economically neoliberal or liberal and socially centrist, not monarchist or whatever the fuck you are describing.

And you are even more retarded.

Erisianists worship Chaos?
Reminder that life is all about balance and that extreme individualism is just as bad as extreme collectivism.

Jonathan Haidt is more popular but most likely wrong, but people like him because his 'truth' is easier to swallow.

While the pic is oddly formatted, the diagonal axis makes sense from a non-American perspective: left-wing has traditionally (i.e. prior to the current Culture Wars, think like 19th century) meant more personal liberty, greater societal openness, less focus on tradition, and right-wing was the Burke-ian view that tradition is great, change is generally bad, outsiders and their ideas are frowned upon, and we should maintain our present way of life (by definition highly segmented with vast monarchical powers). Progressive/conservative, without normative stigma.
In that sense, stuff like AnCaps and Stalinism would have been completely beyond the traditional divide to someone 150 years ago.
It's still the case today in Eastern Europe for example: a lot of what the US considers "alt-right" is just "regular right that never went away". Far-right parties here don't know who Ayn Rand is, and never did - they're all about God, Fatherland, nuclear families, traditional gender roles, strong nationalism and a xenophobic attitude to outsiders/traditional enemies of the nation.
This whole Friedman/Rand thing is not "right-wing" according to the classical spectrum.

Ironically, small-government conservatives are historically the 'alt'-right

There were many forms of anti-Monarchy in the past, some were socialist, some were capitalist.
The debate in the past was more focused on morality and ideology, "which is the true freedom"
Now it's more about fiscal policy and with more empirical arguments
>>3208953
>or whatever the fuck you are describing
you mean fascism?
those definitions mostly apply to far right (and far left) parties. likewise, most of the european left doesn't want to abolish the state, only the furthest left do. parties closer to the center just maintain a more positive/negative view on social hierarchy, rather than abolish it entirely or make it extremely rigid
