Historically speaking, how violent do people collectively tend to be? If it was like 2000 BC, and you were an outsider that was dropped into the middle of some Nordic, Jewish, Pagan Arab, Native American, or Asian tribe, what would happen? Would it be possible to be able to survive and assimilate?
They would grunt like caveman and beat you to death until 1002 where suddenly we all became civilized and stopped eating stones.

It depends on the culture of the tribe. Some cultures are more warlike than others (i.e. Apache vs. Navajo).
Regardless, violence is a necessary instrument in the development of civilization. Without conquest and struggle our ancestors would have had no incentive to strengthen their tribes. Without war, weaker nations which have since dissolved into history would likely still be around - meandering in mediocrity. Humanity has always been violent because force is the great catalyst of change.
