It would be a better idea for the dying grandparent to get to choose whether to have insurance pay for a couple more months of their life, or have insurance cut them a check for 50,000$ for their loved ones and give them enough pain meds that they can pass in peace at their home with their family. Insurance saves money, family gains money, old person gets to be comfortable while they die and tax payers don't have to subsidize what essentially is a human vegetable filled with tubes for another 6 months.
