dear /his/, /asp/ here

we do Historical European Martial arts, or historic fencing.
We research historic european manuals about all sorts of old martial arts and train them.

You might have seen vids like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zueF4Mu2uM or saw something from schola gladiatora on yt.

we had a nice little HEMA general going on /asp/ but the board became 4chans main source of sweaty men in spandex fetish.
So yeah, we are looking for a new board.
>can we be /his/?

I assume other styles of swordsmanship like Japanese would be welcome to?

Sure, why not? Also, how can some friendly hema enthusiasts get a test match with some JMA practicioners?

Look up these guys, though most of them are from the more modern schools. Many of the koryu or older styles from before the Meiji Restoration have oaths about not conducting matches without permission. So even those schools that do that kind of thing would be hesitant to participate. There are some mugai ryu people in the first video though so their are exceptions

I didn't know this existed until a few months ago. I started watching Skallagrim knife review videos which led to sword reviews which led to HEMA stuff. It seems like he gave a lot of good information on how to start practicing HEMA. What do you guys think of him? Is his advice sound?

/hema/ fits better with /his/ as long as it doesn't turn into a sport v. martial arts wank. It can be both imo.

Skall is a cool guy but he's not that knowledgeable yet when it comes to HEMA. Dimicator, Schola Gladiatora ( Matt Easton) and David Rawlings all tend to have a better understanding. I'd say though he's not bad and he is learning all the time.

LARPing / SCA is not /his/

whatever you say buttercup

I think there is a difference between historical martial arts, both living linage like Japanese or reconstructed like hema, and SCA type fighting

I don't disagree, but the international hoplological society might.

http://www.hoplology.com/about.htm

there were some universities offering degrees in hoplology but I don't know if those programs are still around
