There were minor fortifications further north, but building the Maginot across the Belgium border would have been seen as just abandoning Belgium for one thing, and quite rightly so- and building it inside of Belgium would essentially just confirm to the Nazis that you were expecting/wanted a scrap.
One major purpose for the Maginot besides was simply just to protect Alsace Lorraine, which despite being on the border contained much of France's heavy industry and resources.

Belgium didnt allow France to continue the line on their shared border

At least fucking crop it, mong
The Maginot line actually worked. It wasn't supposed to stop any German attack, it was to force them to attack in the north. The pic in OP is actually what the Entente wanted Germany to do, hence why they marched north into Belgium.

You're right about the Maginot line, but the pic is still wrong. The main infantry armies (Wehrmacht) engaged the BEF and French armoured divs. in Belgium/Holland while the Panzer divs. attacked at "the door hinge" in the Ardennes and thrust from south-east to north-west (channel coast, Dunkirk), thus encircling the Allied (not Entente) armies.
I've seen people on /his/ unironically posting the WWI Schlieffen-plan, and not the revised Fall Gelb plan, for WWII, it's getting kinda anoying
