When it comes to 20th century the Cold War fascinates me far more than world wars.
>technological progress never seen before in history, we went to fucking space
>standards ol living were never better from 1946-1973, basically you had almost three decades of non-stop economic growth at enormous speed, only 1973 Oil Crisis managed to stop it
>entire planet is one big ideological battlefield between US and USSR
>tons of interesting events around the world in return, proxy wars, coups, espionage intrigues
>constant tension and drama over possible nuclear apocalypse
>the period produced some amazing culture, music, art, movies, books from the Cold War are top-tier
>and of course aesthetics, the fashion, the haircuts, everything
Let's talk about the Cold War.

yep, pretty neat

It always amazes me how the commies managed to diplomatically isolate themselves.

I mean the capitalist powers had a long history of Imperialism which they could of exploited successfully in the 2nd and 3rd worlds.

And yet, the capitalist powers managed to portray themselves as some sort of bastion of freedom.

How can you fuck up that badly?

Let's talk about China. So why did Sino-Soviet split happend? Was it because of Stalins death?
>Pic somewhat related, Chink first A Bomb

by executing anyone who disagrees with you and funding terrorism in the newling independent decolonized states thus proving the "evil colonialist pig dogs" were right all along and the colonies should have remained a protectorate for a decade or 2 until they were ready for independence

Well, they had a good run, nearly half the planet "bought their product" so to speak.
I guess internal economic problems such as a certain pipeline being destroyed near the end and communist revolutions being painted as acts of aggression.

Gotta love the colours.

Really looks aesthetically pleasing, doesn't it?

That's a good one, too.

There were attempts of detente during the 70s. For a brief time the US-USSR relations were actually quite amiable. OP's image was taken in 1975 during one of such periods, it's a joint Soviet-American space mission.

>So why did Sino-Soviet split happend?
ideological reasons:
>Chinese communism was spearheaded by peasants and students, which Soviet ideology had "mixed feelings" at best (see kulaks). Basically, the Chinese were heretics from Soviet perspective and by Leninist dialectics.
>Khrushchev wanted peaceful coexistence with the West, which Mao saw as a total betrayal of the communist cause and considered them no better than any other Western colonial power after that
>Mao still lived by bombastic, brutal Stalinism, violence was regarded as necessary and unavoidable, while Khrushchev considered Stalinist era a huge mistake.
>Soviets failed in Korea and war had to be saved Chinese "volunteers" with horrific casualty rate and gained next to nothing from it.
geopolitical reasons:
>Chinese didn't want to be just a Soviet satelite and wanted to be as globally relevant as Soviets and Americans.
>Soviets had tendency to dictate how communism should look like (see invasions to Hungary and Czechoslovakia), which Chinese interpreted as that they might be next.
>Soviets and Chinese had land disputes over parts of Mongolian and Russian Far East.

it wasn't really about Stalin's death, but about Krushchev's rise to power. Had some hard-liner like Beria or Malenkov claimed power, the split was perhaps avoidable.

What the fuck do you mean?
they had their dictators in two thirds of Africa, Middle East and Asia.
(Un)fortunately, these were the most incompetent people to ever exist. Millions of people got killed and the niggers still starve to this day because of them.

The cold-war was the ultimate man-child dream. It was a REAL war you could win simply by having the bigger, newest, nicest toy.

Thanks anon, that explains a lot.
