Xenophanes stated:
Mortals deem that the gods are begotten as they are,
and have clothes like theirs, and voice and form... Ethiopians say that their gods are snubnosed and black
Thracians that they are pale and red-haired."
And he was writing at a time when many of the Greek gods, and many "godlike" heroes of their legends were described as golden or fair haired, and light or grey eyed.
So, that being said, if the Greeks worshipped fair haired, light eyed gods, and Xenophanes observed that different people's fashion their gods after themselves, what are we to make of this?
Is this not indication that the Greeks (at least their ruling elite) were of a more northerly origin?
What do you guys think?
