Thought Id ask you guys. I read that somehow teotihuacan went on a imperium fase and conquered mayan cities that even today are a whole day by car from them. Is this true? It really feels like the whole history of a part of humanity is lost to us.
They had friendly relations, archeologysts have found mayan burials in Teotihuacan.

I don't know much about Teotihuacan, but I did attend a lecture by Linda Manzanilla about a year ago. She's a well known (if not the foremost) expert on Teotihuacan. Oddly enough, that exact question came up during the QA session and she basically said that it doesn't seem likely that such a scenario was possible. Teotihuacan was a massive centralized city to be sure, but the organization of the military appears to have been somewhat decentralized and probably defensive in nature. She described their millitary as community-based militias, rather than a formal army. The Teotihuacanos probably couldn't have supported long distance military campaigns, especially not into the Yucatan.
There is definitely a lot of Teotihuacano influence in the Maya region, but that could have been the result of extensive trade or political influence. Thats about as much as I know though, sorry.

No fucking shit. What next, all cultures are the same because they all put roofs on their buildings?

Is it true that the Pyramid of the Sun was actually dedicated to a rain deity?
