We discuss the greatest empire in South America here, and a sad reminder of what might've been.
Republicanism was a mistake, restore monarchy now kthx.
Why was it an Empire and not a Kingdom?

Kingdoms are generally ethnarchies. I think the notion of empire better describes (betrays) the notion that Brazil is not a real nation, but a patchwork of different regions and peoples, only kept united by sheer state force.

Brazil was a Kingdom before being an empire during the United Kingdom of Brazil, Portugal and the Algarves
To show that the nation was now full independent it was necessary to change the name
The country wouldn't be ruled by same monarchs as Portugal anymore after all

Brazil has existed long enough to have a civic identity that transcends the black/white/mulatto divides.
