I think if a region is inhabited by a ethnic majority the region should belong to the majoritie's country. Therefore if it was 1871 (or rather 1866) I'd say the German speaking regions (except Switzerland) should be united - that wouldn't include large parts of Prussia and non-German Austria, ofc.

After WW2 the expulsion and resettlement of peoples changed Europe, one can feel about that how one wants to (I think it was unjust).
Still I believe one shouldn't start with territorial claims on regions that aren't even inhabited by the own people, because that would only result in conflict and suffering.

Same thing with Israel and Palestinians, imho.

If there are still conflicts, one could make treaties in which minorities are resettled to creatre a homogenous distribution of peoples.

More than. 90% of the alsacian population spoke German in 1945, now they're like 45% and mostly older people. The language is dying as the regions has been heavily Frenchified and had seen big waves of immigration.
