What was the Nubian Dynasty of Egypt like? Did they accomplish anything?
>>
They ruled over Egypt for a while. The Nubians conquered Egypt after the Bronze age collapse, so all the doing the Egyptians had in them had basically been done by then. All that was left was to wait around until the new wave of Mesopotamians began knocking about.

The Canaanites and Jews loved them for their support against the Mesopotamian conquerors.

And they brought about a cultural revival of traditional Egyptian ways.

Nubians and Egyptians are rooted in the same proto-culture and the foundations of Dynastic egypt lies on the Upper Egyptian/Nubian border regions.

I suggest you read about Nabta Playa and get out of your head this idea of starkly contrasted people feed by both /pol/ and other reactionary groups.

Egyptians sought to differentiate themselves from their closest neighbors and cultural siblings, it's really just that simple. It's like when certain Anglo nationalists called and compared Irish to blacks.

Case in point; take a look at how Nubian depicted themselves vs how Egyptians depicted them.

It was Nubian in the first place. All the accomplishments were Nubian/Black African achievements. Pic related is the 1st Pharaoh of the 1st dynasty. As much as people try to deny it, Egypt has always been an African society.

Their founder, Kashta, was one of the first ancient rulers to buttdestroy the Assyrians in battle. And for a short while, did hold the Assyrians at bay, as they feared the black warrior.

They also have the cutest sphinxes.

The Nubian Dynasty conquered Egypt under the justification of liberating it from the "foreign" Libyan dynasties that had hegemony at the time and restoring Egyptian culture. As such, you had a renaissance of Egyptian culture.

In terms of culture and foreign policy, the Nubian/26th dynasty followed the status quo set by previous native dynasties. They tried to project influence into Palestine as previous pharoahs did, and in doing so they ran into conflicts with Assyria, who was the major power in the region at the time. The notable exception is that, being Nubian, they didn't undertake any southern expeditions, and their capital remained in Nubia.

They had some culturally distinct elements that stood out from native Egyptians - Piye/Usimare/Sneferre (the first Pharoah of the 26th Dynasty) was apparently very interested in horses and even buried with several. Possibly to reinforce the image of a rightful restorer that they were trying to project and minimize the distinct elements of Nubian culture they brought with them, they revived pyramid building. Most new pyramids were built in Nubia.

In the end, they were overcome by the Assyrians, who would install a native puppet as the next Pharoahs. The Nubians did actually manage some victories over the Assyrians, but they were ultimately conquered and driven from Egypt.
