What were the differences in their foundations?
And how greatly do they differ?

Western philosophy is about getting people to not hate you, eastern philosophy is about getting your dead relatives to not hate you

this is more society than philosophy

and I know you're gonna give me some shit like "but philosophy determines religion and influences society's values!" but I think judging by OP's picture he meant literary philosophers

East has two main traditions. India and China. West's main tradition is Greece.

India's arguably more linked to the west than we think or would otherwise admit to. Indian influence on Greek includes the monism (and its intricacies), cyclical nature of the world, reincarnation, etc. We know them as pre-socratic philosophers who are highly regarded but are seen as being bit mystical.

Indian core is however further divided into two main groups. The religious people who follow the book of Vedas and the people who do not follow the book of Vedas. Astika(Hindu) and Nastika (Non-Hindus like Jainis, Buddhists, Materialists, Hedonists,). Both of them share some core too, but there are difference as well. What they share in relative similarity are concepts like monism (all is one), reincarnation, and freedom from the cycle. What they differ is whether souls exist, whether monism is to be taken at face value (all is one) or whether its a falsehood (since no soul). They differ in whether gods can save them or not. They differ on types of methods. Chiefly meditation for the non-Hindus and faith for the Hindus but you have a mixture in between too.

Initially in China you have whole range of philosophical cores. Main sections being devoted to rule of law/society, family structure, and people's role in society. There's also things like warfare, aesthetics, and such. Then around the turn of the year 0, Buddhism began to have a much larger impact on Chinese society.

The west has had different transitions too. Initially you have the presocratic and the socratic philosophers. Then their later contact with Christianity fundamentally mixed the two together. The focus on the west was more similar to China's focus. Rule of law/society, family matters, people's role in society, etc. It also has added things like reincarnation during presocrating and socratic era, but later discarding that for Monotheistic salvation in heaven/after life. From then on, emphasis is placed more on how to live the life by the monotheistic god's rule.

I was mainly asking about how these two types of philosophies differ in their origins

>>3118924
How has India had such a link? I cannot understand how India was able to exert such influence to allow for these commonalities to appear.

There was lots of contact with India during the Hellenistic period
>>
>>3121364

>The Hellenistic period covers the period of ancient Greek (Hellenic) history and Mediterranean history between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the emergence of the Roman Empire as signified by the Battle of Actium in 31 BC

you said that we acknowledge pre-socratic philosophers as those who have been influenced by India's traditions, but the hellenistic period started 76 years after the death of Socrates. Thus, the Socratic method was the train of thought Greeks used when the Hellenistic period started.

Eastern covers so many different regions and culture groups, it's essentially meaningless.

If it helps, I would like to focus on Chinese philosophy, as it had the greatest influence, spreading throughout East Asia

Pre-Alexander's contact was through Persia. This is where we see the Greek's sparse knowledge about India. Persia before Alexander controlled parts of Greek which helped diffuse the cultures from India to Greeks.

During Alexander's campaign, he had bunch of various Greek philosophers travel with him. He also had bunch of local Indian gurus travel with him. Some are even famous within Greek history itself and known as sramana (ascetics). Greeks began to understand the division between the Indian system (sramana and the brahman(hindus)) around the time of Alexander's conquest. After Alexander, there was a huge colony of Indo-Greeks around Pakistan/Afghan which converted in mass to Buddhism. This period also gave rise to the Mahayana Buddhism. Inclusiveness, the deity-like worship, formal debate structures, etc.
