There wasn't a moorish empire either, but different berber "kingdoms" or faith movements like the Almhoads and Almoravits. And blacks were normally slaves and formed an underclass in they lands, the Hratina, than were basically serfs with even less right. Some movements, like the Almhoades, used them, some times chaining them together so they couldn't run away. In the battles of las Navas they were used as such to protect the tent of the Emir. The Arabs specially didn't like the Blacks or Zanj a lot, they make /pol/tards seem friendly.
