A supreme universal being ugly/indescribable makes more sense though.

I'm afraid there's no hard-boiled logical answer to that. Have you ever experienced extasis ir bliss ? It's intuition speaking. You can reach these stated through meditation or intense experiences and the results almost always leave you pumped full of a divine sense of humility.

Really it aint something you'll learn in a book. You have to live it to understand.

Divine beings tend to be eternal, where as mortals are finite.
As we age and die we become more ugly where as because they don't gods are perceived as eternally beautiful.
