Nationalist China was fucked, even before the war it was full of competing assholes and business interests only looking out for themselves. to the extent people starved because the government officials stole it to sell the grain to other peasants. Then there was the fact Chiang enlisted Japanese soldiers for at least 2 years after the war ended, which did wonders for his popularity among the peasantry. It made the unknown quantity of Mao very attractive compared to what they had

Had the nationalists won, China would be an overpopulated shithole a-la Bangladesh rather than a world leader in technology. The communists were bad, but theres a reason the KMT was less popular. The KMT was corrupt as hell, and under them China was a South-America tier dictatorship + warlords.
