A fireman holding the body of a child victim of the SS Eastland disaster. The ship was carrying 2500 people, employees and their families who were being taken to a special employee picnic event; most of the passengers were poor workers whose only chance to take their wives and children on a holiday was this annual company picnic.

Over 800 people died, many of them drowned, and others suffocated and crushed below decks as the ship flipped on its side in just 20 feet of water. Some died of blunt force trauma or drowning after being struck by objects thrown by bystanders, who were attempting to give the people in the water something to hold onto.

70% of the victims were under 25, and about 300 of them were teenagers, children, and infants.

Many witnesses recounted the screams from the victims, both those trapped inside and the people clinging for life in the murky water.

>God, the screaming was terrible, it's ringing in my ears yet

Another witness, who heard the screaming from blocks away, said:

>People were struggling in the water, clustered so thickly that they covered the surface of the river. The screaming was the most horrible of all.

The heart of Louis Charles de France, son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, who was abused to death after his family's imprisonment and who died at the age of 10 from poor health due to neglect. It was kept by the physician who performed his autopsy and passed down, now it lies in a crystal vase at St. Denis.

Not a great quality photo, but, this is "Jemmy/Jimmy," one of the dogs still kept by the Romanov family during their imprisonment. It was discovered months after their death and identified by the girl's tutor. They had 3 dogs while in Ipatiev. One was shot when it began barking wildly after the executioners came into the house (after the murders) to go through the family's belongings, Jimmy/Jemmy survived for some time--his corpse was not very decayed when it was found--but was either killed or died and was buried, and one dog (Joy) survived and made it to Britain where he lived a long but rather sad life.

>Komarov was selected to command the Soyuz 1, in 1967, with Yuri Gagarin as his backup cosmonaut. Both knew the space capsule was not safe to fly, but everyone in space program was terrified of Brezhnev’s reaction to the mission being delayed or scrubbed. Komarov told friends he knew he would probably die. But he wouldn’t back out because he didn’t want Gagarin to die. Vladimir Komarov was among Gagarin’s best friends.
>As Vladimir Komarov climbed into the transfer van to take the ride down to the pad, he had an air of fatalistic resignation about him. His fellow cosmonauts joshed him, trying to cheer him and get a smile. They started singing, encouraging him to join in. By the time they reached the pad some minutes later, he was singing with them too and the mood of pessimism had lifted somewhat. Gagarin showed up to the launch in full gear and tried to convince the crew to let him pilot the craft instead, but the crew (including Komarov) refused to let him, and Komarov flew the ship, almost certainly knowing that he was likely to die.
>As Komarov was headed to his doom, US listening posts in Turkey heard him crying in rage, “cursing the people who had put him inside a botched spaceship”. He told ground control officials he knew he was about to die. The Soviet premier Alexei Kosygin called on a video phone to tell him he was a hero. Komarov’s wife was also on the call to talk about what to say to their children. Kosygin was crying. When the capsule began its fatal descent the American intelligence “picked up [Komarov’s] cries of rage as he plunged to his death”. Some translators heard him say, “Heat is rising in the capsule”. He also used the word “killed” — presumably to describe what the engineers had done to him.

Anyone got any pics of dead female soldiers? One of my greatest sexual turnons is the thought of women being shot and killed in combat. Imagining her whimpering in the trenches, blood seeping from thr jagged hole in her supple flesh, the pain she is, and her thinking of her family and how she joined to protect them. Now her life is leaking out I to the mud and soon she will be dead, rot away into nothing and be forgotten, her sweet innocent life destroyed for nothing.

Older sister*, not mother. Targeted because they were in a field planting potatoes.
>>
>>3111033
>As we drove by a small field at the edge of town we were just a few minutes too late to witness a tragic event, the most incredible of all. Seven women had been digging potatoes in a field. There was no flour in their district, and they were desperate for food. Suddenly two German planes appeared from nowhere and dropped two bombs only two hundred yards away on a small home. Two women in the house were killed. The potato diggers dropped flat upon the ground, hoping to be unnoticed. After the bombers had gone, the women returned to their work. They had to have food.

>But the Nazi fliers were not satisfied with their work. In a few minutes they came back and swooped down to within two hundred feet of the ground, this time raking the field with machine-gun fire. Two of the seven women were killed. The other five escaped somehow.

>While I was photographing the bodies, a little ten-year old girl came running up and stood transfixed by one of the dead. The woman was her older sister. The child had never before seen death and couldn't understand why her sister would not speak to her...

>The child looked at us in bewilderment. I threw my arm about her and held her tightly, trying to comfort her. She cried. So did I and the two Polish officers who were with me...

The woman is Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, the daughter of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, and the man is her husband, Johann Wilhelm, Elector Palatine. The latter died in 1714, the former in 1743.

Anna Maria was the last Lineal descendant of the house of Medici. She was a famous patron of the arts, and bequeathed (as she had no sons) the Medici's entire art collection from the Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti, and their many estates to the Tuscan State - including various Botticelli masterpieces like "The Birth of Venus", which I can't post because image limit.
